Leaving on a Jet Plane

The plane ride to Singapore was fun. I had a spare seat next to me for that part of the trip and the woman 2 seats along was some old snob asking me all sorts of questions about how good BA were. Being English I had to talk them up. National pride and all that!!!!

Port Arthur and the Convict Penal Colony

Port Arthur and the Convict Penal Colony

Port Arthur had been one of the more vicious places for a convict to end up. This was one of the places where convicts who re-offended ended up. Cruel, brutal and harsh would sum the settlement. Solitary confinement, the floggings and deaths were numerous.

Port Arthur Penal Colony

Port Arthur Penal Colony

Port Arthur was a penal colony for those who re-offended after transportation to Australia. Harsh, brutal sodomy mixed with death and more brutality. Those who made it out alive were the lucky ones. Or were they?

Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart, Tasmania

Now at the Wrest Point Casino Hotel in Hobart. It’s a big hotel built on top of a casino. Not the most aesthetically pleasing of places and doesn’t feel like I’m in Australia anymore. I could be anywhere in the world. The drive down here was long and arduous. It was also a shame to leave Cradle Mountain. I really did like it there. Although Tasmania is a very beautiful and unspoilt part of the world. Had some brief glimpes of all the views and what-nots from the bendy mountain raods. Most impressive at times.

Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart, Tasmania

A couple of days spent in Hobart, Tasmania. Australia’s second oldest settled city and with Mt Wellington and the River Derwent estuary, Hobart is a beautiful old city.

Cradle Mountin Lodge

Cradle Mountin Lodge

The fire went out overnight. Not to worry, soon have it going again. The shower’s a bit of a let down though. I like my showers to have a bit of power behind them. If I want dribbly I can go and stand in the rain.

Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain

A couple of beautiful days spent in the National Park around Cradle Mountain in one of the world’s most beautiful locations and staying in the Cradle Mountain Lodge, sadly without Claire.

Tasmnaia – Cataracts to Cradles

Tasmnaia – Cataracts to Cradles

This whole place is set in the wonderful wilderness that is Tasmania. Small lodges for sleeping in while a bigger, main lodge provides facilities. The whole place seems set up for couples. Reading all the marketing literature there’s a Mountain Mystique – A full body massage and bath for 2. Only AU$100.

Cataract Gorge

Cataract Gorge

Visiting the beauty of Cataract Gorge, near Launceston in Tasmania, Australia.

Drive to Hanging Rock

Headed out north west of Melbourne today, out past the airport. First stop was at Woodland Historic Park and a chance to see a whole load of wild kangaroos. Then onto the Organ Pipes, which weren’t too spectacular although after the walk we did to get to them I was pretty knackered and I was concentrating more on the thousands of bull ants that were around.
