End of 2004 in Melbourne

The end of 2004 arrives and it’s another beautiful day in Melbourne. A day spent in and around Crown Casino and Southbank. Given the heat of the wind coming up from the bay it wasn’t a great day to be outside so after a few photos I headed back inside for some air conditioned comfort.

Walking up St Kilda Road and the impressive Art Centre. The area by the Yarra River has always seen enter entertainment events, including circus, theatre, roller and ice skating, cinema and dance. “The Arts Centre Spire is the most powerful cultural symbol in Melbourne – it is an artistic landmark, and one which represents the city as the arts capital of Australia.” Haddon Storey, Minister for the Arts, 1995.

The main entrance to the National Gallery of Victoria on St Kilda Rd. Opened in 1861 and named while Victoria was a self governing British Colony, never renamed despite Victoria becoming a state in Australia.
