Back Again to Melbourne Zoo
A second trip to Melbourne Zoo. I’ve never been much of a fan of zoos but I had enjoyed visiting Melbourne Zoo in April’04 and wanted to go back and see some of the parts I hadn’t seen before. I also now owned a far better camera and took every opportunity to take as many photos as possible.
The Zoo is going through a number of changes and some areas are being rebuilt or renovated for the animals. The elephants were more noticeable this time around and I also saw the big cats, something I’d missed last time around. It was also a wonderful day. The weather was superb, hot without being too humid.

There was, as before, the pleasures of the seals and the distinct fear I get whenever I’m near snakes. Ice Cream and very cold coke kept my own water levels at a sensible level and the opportunity to stop and take a break while watching the animals meant spending most of the day there.

Melbourne Zoo was originally based on the ideas of London Zoo (somewhere I haven’t been since the 1980s) and is now in Royal Park, having originally been in the Botanical Gardens, when opened in 1862.
