Lit Up Like A Christmas Tree

York’s getting ready for Christmas. You can tell Christmas is coming – it’s November.

Chromolithe on York MinsterThe Minster has been lit up. Looks rather good as well, an interesting set of effects, the stone has a whole new twist and the ‘Heart of Yorkshire’ that no one ever realised was there is now clearly visible.

It is the chromolithe technique of ‘painting’ buildings with light by Patrice Warrener who has done similar work in Germany, Holland, Australia, Japan and Russia.

Naturally, it has annoyed a lot of people, those religious fanatics who feel that it’s a desecration of God’s name to treat his ‘house’ as a piece of art. Though the one-week-only display is attracting a lot of people.

Hey, it’s the Light of God shining on his house.

York’s Art Gallery windows have also been given a little twist while various other York landmarks are being given permanent white lighting to show them off at night.

All very interesting. It’s all part of a push for something slightly different, some of it interesting, some of it not so.

Might be good if some of it was permanent.
