Baltimore Aquarium
Driving to Baltimore and the rain’s coming down hard. It’s chucking it down. Visibility is low and so we’re driving a little more slowly than usual. Unlike many others who fly past with no sense of personal safety. Slipping past DC and we’re on towards Baltimore with the printed Google map.
The rain abates by the time we arrive a couple of hours later. M&T Bank stadium looks impressive as we go past it. M&T Bank or Empty Bank?
I’ve always loved aquariums. That stems from a love of water, swimming, diving and all the messing about on or in water. Baltimore Aquarium is going to have to be impressive to be better than Sydney but I’m not here to make comparisons.
Baltimore Aquarium turned out to be impressive. There was a pair of school groups in as well. One slightly noisy yet well managed bunch of young kids and a group of very noisy teenagers who really didn’t behave like they gave a damn about being there. There’s nothing like children to really try and spoil the day.
The mix of fish and aquatic animal life is good. There are a few interesting areas and the Australian section was a very enjoyable reminder of my time in that country. I was able to inform one of the staff about some of the creatures. Baltimore Aquarium has excellent staff. Very friendly and very helpful.
Baltimore Aquarium opened in 1981 during the redevelopment of the harbour area. There are over 16,000 specimens of animal and plant life. The rooftop rainforest is wonderfully hot and humid and the shark tank has some scary animals.
Having never been much of a fan of performing dolphins we sort of missed that by, watching them for a while from the free area viewing from below the water line.
Matt and I had a beer in the ESPN Zone across the road afterwards. A much needed beer. Big aquariums and museums can be tiring.
Driving out of the car park afterwards turned into a scary moment. There was nothing to suggest we were coming out onto a one way street. We got out without incident!
Definitely a fun day out. Baltimore Aquarium is highly recommended if you’re in the area.
