Arlington Cemetery
The National Cemetery at Arlington, Virginia, houses many of America’s war dead. From the Civil War onwards the area has been used as a burial site for those who have died. It is a vast cemetery which, sadly, continues to grow. John F Kennedy rests here beside the (mostly) eternal flame.
With perhaps a little irony, the site of the cemetery at Arlington House used to belong to Confederate general Robert E Lee. There are now over 300,000 people buried at Arlington National Cemetery from the War of independence onwards.
