Parisian Hotel Celebrates Centennial
Hotel Gavarni becomes first independent hotel in Paris to be awarded Ecolabel. The sights are classic, the mood is romantic and pretty soon the colors of Paris will run “green” thanks to Hotel Gavarni. This quaint, warm hotel located in the middle of Paris has been operating for nearly a century and it has been successful for a few simple reasons: warmth and history. Built between 1907 and 1908 by Henri Lecoeur, a famous french architect, the hotel hailed its name from the street where it has stood for 100 years – Gavarni.
Located at the heart of the Passy village and its fashion boutiques and only a few steps away from the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero, the hotel has seen its fair share of history throughout its years of operation but it’s about to make history of its own.
On February 10, 2009, Hotel Gavarni will be the first independent hotel in Paris to be awarded the European Ecolabel, certifying that the hotel conducts eco-friendly practices. This award will be presented during the hotel’s centennial celebration.
“We are proud to receive the Ecolabel. It’s truly an achievement especially for small business owners to receive such a certification and it’s another great reason to celebrate our 100 years in business,” states Xavier Moraga, Managing Director of Hotel Gavarni. The hotel was able to pass a strict 84 point test allowing this historic hotel to become a hotspot for eco-tourists.
At first glance, the “eco-friendly” features are subtle and unassuming, possibly so well integrated into the hotel that they do not to disturb the classic Parisian ambiance of the establishment. In fact, the first thing that hits you is the vibe of comfort and familiarity that is difficult to find in big cities; one that can only be equaled by a place called home. It’s simply romance, love and all things Paris that take you over.
Upon closer inspection though, the hotel’s Ecolabel certification become apparent. Inside the hotel’s rooms, there’s a sense of warmth. Could this be explained by the simple elegance of the design or by the 100% low consumption bulbs used in the lighting? There’s also a comforting energy as you pass which could be explained by the friendly staff or by the fact that Hotel Gavarni uses 100% renewable energy. Hotel Gavarni also pays a voluntary annual tax for carbon dioxide rejection, serves purely organic food and wine (most of which is also fair trade). Even hotel amenities have not been overlooked as the shampoos, soap and shower gel are made with 100% natural ingredients.
Lastly, there’s this unexplainable sense of comfort. It could be due to the personalized care of the owners in creating eco-friendly strategies like encouraging guests to use carpools, placing recycling bins in the guestrooms and installing light switches in the hallways that automatically turn off after several seconds.
Or it may be as simple as knowing Hotel Gavarni cares about both its guests and the environment.
Hotel Gavarni celebrates its 100th year anniversary this year entitled “100 years, 100 prizes”. This charming boutique hotel was awarded the European Ecolabel, rewarding its long time commitment in favor of ecology. It becomes the first independent hotel in Paris to be awarded the Ecolabel. For its centennial celebration, Hotel Gavarni will be collecting raffle entries from February 10, 2009 to September 10, 2009 from guests staying at Gavarni between those dates.
