Flying Home
The fun of flying home into the snow with lost baggage and cancelled flights from Heathrow. It’s a 4 bus ride and a 2 hour train ride home again.

Last day in Perth and the flight back to Melbourne to enjoy some cricket at the MCG.
Flying back to Melbourne, this time with the excellent Qantas service and the pleasure of being back in Melbourne, its trams, trains and sort-of-all-new Southern Cross Station. Little changes except that most of the building work that was here before is now complete.
I’ve barely slept all night. The excitement of returning to the USA is a little too much. Somewhere around 4.30am a text message arrives. It’s from BA. My flight from Manchester to Heathrow has been cancelled. I try ringing the number given for BA customer services but they don’t open till 6am.
The trip home wasn’t anything fun. It was good to be home but right now Victoria is the place I want to be.
Because when you set your alarm you do not expect to half wake up and not realise some Japanese guy is fiddling with your alarm. Just wake me up!
One brief final morning in Alice Springs. I have decided that I could quite happily live here. There is a beauty and remoteness that appeals to me. Still, it is time to head back Melbourne and fly back the way I came. Sort of. I had a discussion during the Face the Outback tour about whether it was acceptable to fly anywhere while touring round Australia. Their theory being that it simply should not be done. I disagreed. Having flown into Melbourne before and seen some of this country from the air.
Singapore airport. It’s probably the 5th Dec but I can’t be too sure. Left my email address with a woman in Manchester Airport. Left there without any problems and getting the plane so far has been alright. The last 4 hours seemed to drag a bit and I haven’t slept much.
Dulles airport is a big scary mess. Spent half an hour just trying to find my way around the place and where to book in. Too many people in too small an area and officials were directing people around like traffic. For an international airport the check-in area was way too small.
In the air again. This time to Dulles Airport, Washington DC. Finally get to go and see Matt and Melissa, assuming that is if the US customs let me in. Films aren’t up to much on the flight. Started on the Manchurian Candidate, the new one with Denzel Washington.
