A bit more of Adelaide

A bit more of Adelaide

Sunday morning in Adelaide. Having arrived early on the overnight Greyhound Adelaide was peaceful and quiet which was an ideal time to have a walk around and enjoy returning to the fine little city in Australia.

And so to Uluru

And so to Uluru

Early morning in Coober Pedy and I?m still feeling drunk. Breakfast of a Berocca for a change along with the coffee. Such are the pleasures of the day. We have a 750 Km drive to Uluru to do today.

Surviving Saturday night in Coober Pedy

Surviving Saturday night in Coober Pedy

A spot of afternoon noodling (aka fossicking, aka fofficking as Niamh named it) lasted for about five minutes before boredom set in. There we were, spread out over the public noodling pit and found nothing but a football. Useful though. Presumably, the public pit provides something for the tourists, thus giving the locals something to laugh at. The Aussie sense of humour can be fun.

People's Rep-public of Talc

People's Rep-public of Talc

I’ve been reading Will Self’s collection of articles Junk Mail on the trip so far. An interesting bit of reading. His assessment of how Aboriginals use white people as slaves was intriguing and probably true in some cases, exploitation of guilt felt by whites over the treatment of the ‘natives’ when Australia was first settled.

Pounding the Homestead

Pounding the Homestead

No idea what time I woke this morning. Not that it really matters either. Had a breakfast of coffee and cigarettes washed down with a Berocca. Showered and gathered for a walk. Choice of 2 walks, the hard one or the easy one. Naturally I went for the easy one. At the easy/hard junction everyone else turned left leaving me with a clear track and a 3km walk to the Hill’s Homestead.

Out of Adelaide, In the Flinders Ranges

Out of Adelaide, In the Flinders Ranges

Up early on Tuesday to pack and leave Adelaide with the Wayward Bus company on an eight day camping trip to Alice Springs via Clare Valley, Flinders Ranges, Coober Pedy, the Rock and Kings Canyon. I was having a rough morning which probably wasn’t a good start when there’s a whole group of people to make introductions with so kept myself quiet and out the way till my head cleared. Today’s end point was destined to be Wilpena Pound.
