To the cave

The kookaburras perform the morning wake up call with their rather distinctive mocking sounds. I’ve slept all night sitting up despite some half baked idea in the night to shift and lie down. It doesn’t matter, a good night’s sleep was still had.

Walking in the shadows of giants

The early mornings in Western Australia are starting at around 4.30am. Thanks to a lack of daylight saving hours in WA crossing the border from South Australia means dropping the clocks back two and a half hours. Since crows and sunlight have no concept of time the day begins so much earlier.

Sleeping on the bus

Up early and it’s still quiet. A kangaroo is in one of the eskies so I move that out of the way. Human food can do serious damage to wild animals so they should never be fed. The beach looked even better while deserted.

It’s Grand to be Lucky

The next drive isn’t a long one. Passing through Norseman the bus heads south to Esperance to buy food and beer and then to Cape Le Grand. Time for a rest and a couple of days by one of the most perfect beaches in the world in the beauty of a cobalt blue bay.

The sort of place one gets into in bad dreams

Awake just before dawn, the crows are out and one of them is making a lot of noise. The embers of the fire are stoked up for breakfast and after the morning coffee we pack up to leave.

Sail the Nullarbor

Coodlie Park may be one of the few places on this trip to get a decent shower but I don’t. The water here is collected from rain water and it’s scarce. Others need it more than I do. Coodlie Park is a great place to stay for anyone travelling in the area and Hassie and Jo are great hosts.
